Here at Silver Spring United Methodist Church, we worship joyfully and passionately, celebrating the good gifts of God through a diversity of music, liturgy, and biblically-centered preaching. We believe in the power of Holy Spirit to renew, encourage, challenge, and invite us deeper into the work of building up the kin-dom of God. Join us this Easter as we proclaim and reclaim the resurrection promises of Jesus Christ!
We worship every week at 10 a.m. in our Sanctuary at 8900 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring, Maryland. The primary Sanctuary entrance is located off our parking lot, which can be accessed either by Ballard Street or First Avenue. You can also join us this Easter (and every week!) online either on YouTube or Facebook. Worship materials like our bulletin can be found here.

Ample parking is available behind and beside our building on Georgia Avenue, including accessible spaces for those needed assistive devices. Our parking lot general fills up on a normal Sunday, and those coming on Easter are encouraged to arrive early. We have outlined both lots on the image below:
Overflow parking is available in the outlined lot on the opposite side of Ballard Avenue, and additional street parking on First Avenue is also available without a permit on Sunday mornings.
We are an intergenerational community that celebrates a diversity of age and stage in our Sanctuary every Sunday morning. Children are not just welcome here. They are an important part of our worshipping community.
Children’s messages are a prominent part of our worship time where children and caregivers alike are invited to the front of the Sanctuary to receive a biblically-focused lesson aligned with that week’s scripture texts. Following the children’s message, space is available in our Sanctuary PrayGround–a dedicated, carpeted space with worshipful activities, toys, and space for families to worship together–for children of all ages. Children four years through 1st grade have a dedicated Sunday School class. And children 2nd-5th grade are invited to join staff and volunteers for our weekly Children’s Chapel, where children lead worship together and learn more about the Scriptures used in our Sanctuary service each week.
Dedicated Nursery and Toddler Care is available in our newly renovated Nursery near the Sanctuary. For more information, email our Director of Children & Family Ministries Marie Matthews.
Our weekly worship features a variety of musical and liturgical elements ranging from classic hymns and anthems to Gospel and praise music. This blended worship style celebrates the diversity of ways we connect to one another and God. You can expect everything from handbell and flute choirs to drums and bass alongside our beautifully renovated organ.
Sermons each week are biblically-grounded and emphasize contextual teaching to help us consider and apply the timeless teachings of Jesus to the modern challenges we face in our nation and world.
Our congregation is a diverse representation of ages, races, sexualities and identities united in our desire to love God, love one another, and deepen our personal discipleship for the transformation of the world. We are believers and doubters, life-long Christians and people who’ve never been to Church before, folks who are feeling it and folks hungry to feel connected at all. No matter who you are, where you are on the journey, or where life has taken you (or will take you at the end of worship) all of what you bring and all of who you are is welcome here!
