We are delighted to share with you that SSUMC’s development team has been awarded the competitive 9% Low Income Housing Tax Credits and related Maryland Rental Housing Program funds that we applied for in May, as noted in this Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development announcement.

These government subsidies will help SSUMC deliver a total of 135 new homes, including 12 lease-to-own townhomes, designed for households across a range of incomes and family structures. This mix of affordable rental and homeownership opportunities will support generational wealth-building and housing stability for Silver Spring families. But as our Pastor Will Green points out, “This project is not just about housing—it’s about building beloved community where everyone has a place to call home.”

The anticipated next steps in the project include developing a site plan and other required documentation for county zoning officials. Public hearings on the project would follow.

If you haven’t done so already, be sure to register to receive updates and news from the BBCC.
